Seven nominees including three incumbents have been nominated for Regional Chair positions across IAPB’s seven regions.

For two regions, Africa and Western Pacific, regional elections were held to choose the preferred candidate among the nominees.

Amanda Davis, the Chief Operating Officer of Brien Holden Vision Institute, was nominated as the Regional Chair for the Western Pacific.The Brien Holden Vision Institute is globally acknowledged for its ability to translate vision research into product development. Commercial successes are reinvested into public health programs that pursue vision for everyone, everywhere.

Amanda leads initiatives to deliver improved access to sustainable, culturally appropriate, and affordable eye care for hundreds of thousands of people in developing communities around the world. Described as an outstanding champion of the rights of people, Amanda is passionate about working with government, civil society, business organisations and universities to develop programs that build strong public health systems and impact policy. Amanda was also named one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence in 2014, by Westpac and the Australian Financial Review.

All seven nominees will be formally appointed as Chairs for the seven regions at the IAPB Annual General Meeting in October 2016, just prior to the 10th General Assembly.
