How should we ensure scarce resources in health are allocated fairly and efficiently?

How should we price goods and services to maximise access and cover costs?

How should we structure insurance systems to reduce out-of-pocket expenditure?

These questions (and many others) are critical to financing for eye health. In 2015, IAPB and the Fred Hollows Foundation conducted country studies in Lao PDR, Viet Nam and the Philippines to review the situation and opportunities for financing in eye health. These studies were conducted with financial support from Australian Aid.

Separately, IAPB also partnered with the Brien Holden Vision Institute to investigate the affordability of spectacles in Cambodia. The research findings will be useful in ongoing work to improve access to health services and reform the country’s Health Equity Fund.
